The simulator is accessed per course or on a time used basis.
For students
Students undertaking the RYA Radar Course need a simulator session for the day of the course. Centres buy a ‘Course Credit’ for the students on the course.
For Instructors
Instructors need access to the simulator to both practice and refine their use of the simulator and to deliver the course (eg demonstrating an aspect of the use of radar). Instructors can access the simulator in a few different ways:
- The Instructor purchases a block of ‘Simulator Hours’ that give them access to the simulator as and when they need it. They use these purchased hours in 15 minute blocks. This suits a freelance instructor teaching at multiple schools. These instructors will factor this cost into their day rate in the same way a First Aid instructor might if they are providing the training equipment used by the school for the course.
- Alternatively the Centre can purchase a block of ‘Simulator Hours’ and make these hours available to whichever of their instructors needs access.
- The Centre can also purchase a ‘Course Credit’ for the Instructor to access the simulator just as the student would do on the day of the course.
- An Instructor could utilise one of the Student’s session on the day of the course to demonstrate aspects of simulator and radar use.
Getting set up
Centres and instructors that wish to utilise the simulator need to be set up initially as an approved centre or instructor (at no cost). Simulator sessions or hours are then purchased and log against the centre’s/instructor’s account.

Access for Students post course
Our trial courses have showed a strong desire on the part of the attendees to continue to access the simulator post course. Additional access time can be purchased in periods of 5, 10 and 20 hours. Students can then access the course in their own time independently or it may be that a centre creates additional exercises for the student to execute.
Simulator activity is monitored to ensure usage adheres to our Terms of Business and Fair Usage Policy.
